CALENDAR OF EVENTS

Here is the schedule of programs for the 2005-2006 fiscal year. Please mark your calendars for the dates of the meetings. All meetings will be held at the Newberry Library. Doors open at 1:00 PM and the program begins at 1:30 PM. except the March, April and May meetings.

Parking directions for the Newberry Library are listed below.

NOVEMBER 5, 2005

    THE IRISH AFTER WORLD WAR II
      Rev. William Corcoran, Pastor of St. Linus Church, will present a revealing and lively presentation of life for the Irish in Chicago after World War II.

        Doors open at 1:00 PM. Program will start at 1:30 PM.

DECEMBER 3, 2005

    SHARING YOUR CHICAGO TRADITIONS - A HOLIDAY CELEBRATION
       

        Doors open at 1:00 PM. Program will start at 1:30 PM.

FEBRUARY 4, 2006

    COURT RECORDS
      Phil Costello, Archivist for the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County Archives, is back to share how to find court records in Cook County, IL.

        Doors open at 1:00 PM. Program will start at 1:30 PM.

MARCH 4, 2006

    RIDGE HISTORICAL SOCIETY MUSEUM TOUR AND PRESENTATION
      We will be meeting at the Ridge Historical Society for a tour of their museum and the staff of the Historical Society will explain what is available and of value to genealogists and family historians at this museum relating to the Beverly Hills, Morgan Park, and Washington Heights neighborhoods.

        PLEASE NOTE:We will be meeting at Ridge Historical Society at 10621 S. Seeley Avenue, Chicago, IL.
        Doors open at 1:00 PM. Program will start at 1:30 PM.

APRIL 1, 2006

    NATIONAL ARCHIVES AND RECORDS ADMINISTRATION (NARA)
      We are going back to the National Archives for a special day of activities. Speakers will be available from a variety of organizations to discuss their organizations and how they can be of help to genealogists and family historians. Although not confirmed at this time, we are trying to get a speaker from IRAD, the Illinois Genealogical Society among others.

        We will be meeting at the National Archives and Records Administration at 7358 S. Pulaski, Chicago, IL.
        By Car
        The facility is about 5 miles south of the Pulaski Road exit on the Stevenson Expressway (I-55), 5 miles west of the 79th Street exit on the Dan Ryan Expressway (I-94), and 7 miles north of the Cicero Avenue exit on the Tri-State Tollway (I-294).

        By Public Transportation
        Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) bus 53A (the South Pulaski Road route) stops at South Pulaski Road and West 75th Street. Passengers can transfer from it to other buses, subways, and commuter trains serving the Chicago area.

    ELECTION OF OFFICERS and "SLIME AND SCUM IN OUR FAMILY TREE - AN INTERACTIVE EXERCISE"
      We will begin with the General Meeting and Election of Officers.
      CGS Board Member Craig Pfannkuche will present an always entertaining presentation of those characters in our family trees that may be a little (or a lot) unsavory but add interest to our family stories.

        Doors open at 1:00 PM. Program will start at 1:30 PM.

Parking is available at a reduced price of $6.00 for 0 to 6 hours and $8.00 for 6 to 8 hours. Parking locations are: 100 West Chestnut (entrance on Clark Street), 100 East Walton (half block west of Michigan Ave), and 1035 North Clark Street (at Maple, next to Perillo). Get your parking ticket validated at the security desk at the Newberry Library.
