While many blue state politicians reject the economic benefits that could come with an Elon Musk partnership over politics, Pennsylvania’s Josh Shapiro isn’t shying away.
Shapiro took a call from Musk on Sunday after billionaire Thomas Tull connected the pair while he and Musk attended a Pittsburgh Steelers game together, NBC reported.
“Thomas and Elon were at the Steelers game together and called me about some ideas that Elon Musk has in investing in Pennsylvania, creating jobs and economic opportunity, and I was pleased to hear about it,” Shapiro said, according to NBC.

The seemingly-productive chat puts Shapiro at odds with his out-of-state contemporaries, some of whom outright refuse to engage with Musk.
The California Coastal Commission went so far as to reject the U.S. Air Force’s plan to grant Musk’s SpaceX the ability to launch rockets from Santa Barbara County’s Vandenberg Air Force Base, Politico reported Thursday.
The Commission rejected the plan 6-4, with one commissioner citing Elon Musk’s tweets as part of the reason why.
“Elon Musk is hopping about the country, spewing and tweeting political falsehoods and attacking FEMA while claiming his desire to help the hurricane victims with free Starlink access to the internet,” Commissioner Gretchen Newsom said, according to Politico.
Shapiro, who was on the shortlist to be Kamala Harris’ running mate and is squarely on the opposite side of the political divide from Trump-backing Musk, didn’t let that get in the way of business.

“We focused on what I try and do every single day, which is bringing jobs and economic opportunity and growth to Pennsylvania,” he said.
Both Shapiro and Musk have been campaigning in Pennsylvania, largely seen as the most important swing state, for their respective candidates.
Musk appeared with Trump in his return to Butler, Pennsylvania — the site of Trump’s near-assassination in July — on Saturday, calling the upcoming election “the most important election of our lifetime.”
Shapiro, meanwhile, appeared alongside former President Barack Obama for a marquee Harris campaign event in Pittsburgh on Thursday night, according to The Well News.
